Hugh M. - Foreign Language & Linguistics degree to teach ESL - ten years experience; Central Florida

My name is Hugh Mills. I'm originally from New York, where I studied four years of high school Spanish and Latin, then completed another four years of Spanish; four more years of Latin; four years of French, and two of German. I have a degree in Linguistics, as well as Speech Pathology and Audiology from Queens College of the City University of New York. After moving to Kissimmee I began working as a tutor for the Adult Literacy League in Orlando, handling eight private students per week. Following that, I developed my own Advanced Vocabulary class for upwards of 30 students twice a week. I ultimately became Volunteer Coordinator for over 300 tutors, while still keeping my individual students and classes. I also taught in MetroWest at a private English-language institute, called UniFluent. There I taught exclusively Portuguese-speaking students. Most of my students are South American - primarily Venezuelan, but I have Colombian, Puerto Rican, and Brazilian students as well. Because of my strength in Spanish and Latin, I am able to quickly help students recognize the similarities and differences between English and their native tongue. Many of my students have completed Citizenship; have improved their career options; and are able to speak more fluently in their new country.
