I’m having trouble staying motivated when studying for finals, with the end of the semester so close. What are some of your strategies for staying focused?

Seek out study buddies, preferably early on in the school term. Having a study buddy will help you stay motivated and also give you someone that you can go to when you need help. I would also recommend distancing yourself from distractions. Stop saying yes to every dinner invite you get, gently tell your friends that you can't right now, but would love to catch up after the semester is over.
Definitely definitely stay connected with other students who are also studying as much as you are (whether they're friends of yours, classmates, or not). I'm part of a Facebook group called the "Official Group for UCSC Students," and often, students post funny or relatable memes on the page related to college student struggles (such as finals) which, oddly enough, helps me get through finals because I can interact with other students on there and see how many people are relating to a funny post or meme that someone put on the page. The more you can stay connected to a small or large community of students who are sharing your studying experiences, the more you'll act like them and study. I also like to motivate myself with food (doesn't work for everyone, as we all have different relationships with food). For instance, I get myself special snacks for finals week, from super fresh fruit and berries to sweet chocolate treats. Or, I reward myself for a set amount of studying or hard work by going out for ice cream/dinner. Make finals week feel special in some way by taking extra good care of yourself, and you'll start enjoying the challenge of tricking yourself into studying.
I like to study in a group setting, because it reminds me that I'm not alone in feeling stressed about finals. Even if we're not necessarily studying for the same classes, it helps me to study with my friends because we make sure to keep each other focused. We like to come up with fun playlists to study to, and rewards that we can indulge in when we're all done with our finals. I've found that this makes finals stress seem much more manageable, and it makes studying more fun. I also think it's important to stay healthy during finals; getting enough sleep, eating healthy, and working out will make you feel stronger and more able to focus.
Nearly every college student (including myself) struggles to stay motivated during finals, so you are not alone. Because of this "nationwide" struggle, there have been many methods developed to stay motivated. My personal favorite is a checklist in which I get a tiny reward when I finish something. For example, I wouldn't let myself workout until I studied two solid hours for my psychology exam. I wanted to go workout, so getting my studying done was a motivating factor for me.
I'm a pretty big fan of vision boards. If you haven't seen these, a quick Pinterest search will probably inspire you. I like to do these towards the end of the semester because, well, burnout is real. It's hard for me to keep caring when we're in the last three or four weeks of classes. So I try to keep myself motivated by waking up everyday to the reminder of the goals I've set for myself.I also try to take time for myself. Stress can really take a toll on your body, both physically and mentally. As the semester goes on, remember that it's okay to take more than one nap per day. Remind yourself that you haven't come this far to quit now. Push through. Nothing lasts forever.
