What are some of the most interesting or rewarding electives that you’ve taken?

I took a Lit Horror Film Class which went through the history of horror films and the technicality behind them, and it was awesome! The professor and the T.A. that I had really added to it as well because they were so passionate!
I took an International Relations class as an elective, and it allowed me to learn so much about current events around the world that I wasn't aware of before. We learned a lot about other countries that I think are often overlooked in the media, which of course tends to be focused on the US, and it opened my eyes to many issues around the world that I hadn't previously known about. It also gave me a much better overall understanding of US relations with other world powers, which has continued to benefit me every time I turn on the news. It was a pretty general class, but it made me so much more interested in news and politics, because I learned so much about what's going on around the world.
One of the most interesting classes I took was a women's studies class and Latin I. The women's studies class really opened my eyes about gender in America and the social ideals we have ingrained in us and our society. Latin I was interesting because I learned about Ancient Rome and studied a language that shaped the most common Romantic languages.
I started out as a music minor and thoroughly enjoyed it. I was blessed to receive scholarship money and I've met a lot of the friends I currently have through my music courses. Being a music minor gave me a sense of belonging. I had rehearsals a few times per week, where I saw the same people who shared a common interest. I think these electives were rewarding because of the stability it gave me as I started my college career.
Every single one of my women's studies classes were extremely rewarding. I loved how the professors took on various perspectives in order to analyze a woman's role in society. In addition, any English elective is different worthwhile because writing is important in every single career path. I took an English class that focused on the art of writing about sports and I honestly learned so much. Don't be afraid to be adventurous when choosing electives, you never know what you might come across and you could ever discover a new passion!
I think fields that many majors overlook are the "soft science" fields. These are fields like Sociology, Psychology, and Women's Studies. As someone in the humanities, it wasn't a surprise that I took many of these classes, but I would strongly recommend that people in other fields take them too. Many of these courses are eye-openers. They clue you into key things like class issues, gender issues, and racial issues that you've never thought of before. Even better, they force you to think critically about the world around you. I find that this sort of critical thinking may just be the most valuable thing I've learned in college.
