What do people do with purchased textbooks at the end of a semester?

I either keep them or look on Ebay to see if I can resell them!
I like to keep them if they genuinely interested in me - I can always reread them for fun or look back to them for a reference. If it's for a class that didn't really interest you, you can always sell them in person or online through places like Chegg and Uloop.
At the end of the semester, you can choose to keep your textbooks and read through them as most students don't read the entire textbook in a semester. Or, you can sell them. Facebook is great way to sell your textbooks.
Some people sell their textbooks, either to their school's bookstore or to another student.
