Core Conditioning 1 was my first PE class at Cal. I really loved the way Toni taught this class. She was very encouraging of all students to concentrate, focus, and to push ourselves a little more as the class progressed. I always found her guidance through out class very helpful to make sure I was doing the exercises correctly. She would also spotlight students as examples of how to do the exercise sequence properly which I found helpful to learn from. I appreciated her holistic approach to those who are new to having an exercise routine as she also incorporated talks about proper diet and nutrition. That being said I would strongly recommend continuing to take other classes lead by her!

Toni was a fantastic instructor. She did a great job of teaching the poses of the class and helping students improve their form and fitness. She was also very accommodating, helping modify the curriculum for those who had limitations or were coming back from injury. She does a good job of making the class enjoyable while pushing you to improve your practice.

Toni is amazing. She teaches Vinyasa yoga like no-one else. I've always enjoyed learning new challenging poses but these are rarely taught in a regular yoga class. Well, she will teach you those and you'd better be up for the challenge! Her instructions are always very clear and so helpful. Thanks for three amazing semesters!

I love Toni and this class so much. The only Yoga Class I have ever taken and I am set on taking one next semester. Even over zoom she was able to have a great influence on the class and on my own mindset, and she was the perfect instructor!

I took Vinyasa Yoga and Mindfulness classes with Toni. I can say that Toni is an amazing and professional instructor. There are many yoga and meditation poses to learn in her classes without getting bored and stressed. She is also concerned about students' stress and feelings. For her classes, she allows asynchronous, which is so nice! I would highly recommend her classes! You can get a lot of new thinking about life!

I was in core conditioning and vinyasa classes at Cal back in 2018. When I was taking both classes, I was desperately looking for direction. I had immense pressure to go to law school but deep down inside I knew it was not for me. Through Toni’s courses, I learned to safely channel my stress and to engage in difficult thoughts/experiences of life. I truly believe that Toni is among the best instructors I have ever had at Cal. I wanted to express my gratitude for all the knowledge you’ve imparted on me to begin my own journey in instructing yoga.

I took Toni Mar's yoga class during my last semester at Cal in 2008, and it was life-changing. It's 2022 and I still think back to the things I learned, which have influenced my life and career deeply over the years. Toni is a star, plain and simple. I've been taking her classes since last Fall (my first semester), and I've enjoyed every minute. I believe that she really has the betterment of her students at the forefront of her curriculum and her teaching style: she allows for asynchronous attendance to accommodate for our busy lives and provides follow-along lesson recordings for students going on their own time; for live attendees, she offers in-the-moment advice to ensure that we have proper form in our exercises; she takes a progressive approach to her classes, not giving us any material/exercise that she hasn't gradually prepared us for; and she pushes us to see past the limits we place on ourselves and complete exercises that might at first seem too difficult to perform. She also provides powerful insight in her more introspectively focused courses, too, finding a really great balance between light exercise and meditative stillness. I find that the pearls of wisdom which she offers are often aligned with my own spiritual path at various points along the way, which has been a huge help well beyond the course itself. Toni's words have lead me to reflect on stressors and how I truly have the power to see them (for my own good) in a peaceful light; she has pounded into my brain the importance of good posture and healthy eating; and she is chock-full of incredible quotes from various spiritual figures that really get me thinking--questioning the things that once felt so sure. She's a light, and I appreciate her deeply. Class with Toni is only ever going to be as hard as you make it; she's always there to help you thrive, and she is keen to let you know that. Take her courses with faith in her process--you can only succeed!

Though I am writing this in the 5th week of class (Vinyasa 1), I can feel the progression I have made in Ashtanga Yoga basics with the incredible help of Instructor Mar. Firstly, the dual asynchronous and synchronous nature of this class has been surprisingly effective and efficient for me. If I miss a class, I can always make it up and then promptly receive thorough and thoughtful feedback from the instructor. My prior experience with yoga solely consisted of the free yoga videos on YouTube; with those, I always had to skip the more advanced poses (such as arm-balancing asana) as I would always attempt and fall. However, with the clear guidance and visualization tips given by Instructor Mar, I recently accomplished bakasana (crow pose) for the first time -- after a couple years of informal yoga practice. That being said, these poses are only one component of the practice. I want to emphasize how Instructor Mar is constantly mindful of the deep lineage of this school of yoga. She never fails to remind students of the importance of breathwork, mantras, and spirituality, in conjunction with asana practice. As a result, in her class, I am always filled with gratitude and humbled to participate in this practice!

The nadi shodhana was the most important part of the class for me. I have never practiced breathing past the anxiety GIFs that my therapists give me. Doing this not only woke me up from feeling sluggish, but it made me feel clearer in the head. I really enjoyed doing this breathing technique because it was different and new, but I really love how it made my body feel. As of lately, I have been feeling less focused and more stressed out about school, self-image and other relationships in my life. I can definitely see myself doing this when I wake up throughout this week to force me awake and get me ready for the day.

Toni is a godsend. I genuinely don't think I could have survived Berkeley without her. Waking up to her Yoga classes every morning this semester has been such a wonderful way to start the day, and every day has been more fulfilling because of it. I wish I started taking her classes sooner! She is also the most responsive professor - she emails me back within a couple of hours usually and always with such thoughtful responses! It's incredible considering how many students she has.

I took classes with Toni for 1.5 years and I can honestly say her Yoga classes kept me sane throughout college and I wish I had started taking them sooner. Her classes aren't just about the physical benefits, but you really get stronger mentally too. I have not found another instructor like her and other yoga classes I've taken just do not compare in terms of physical difficulty as well as training your mind. Do not miss the opportunity to take classes with Toni. Highly, highly, highly recommend!

Toni certainly has high expectations of her students, but is a stellar instructor in that she gives ample support to students to meet those expectations. Class was always a challenge but 5 years later, I still run through the sun salutation that I learned in class as well as the crow pose. She was rigorous in the most inspirational way.

Toni Mar truly care about her students. I took 2 classes with Toni this semester and both allowed me to become more aware of my body and work towards setting physical focused goals for myself. Toni provides clear instruction, great encouragement, and an excellent understanding of the body and physical education. Toni fostered a classroom environment where it was okay to fail which only allowed us to grow even further and improve our skills. Toni is great and I highly recommend her classes!
