I gained a lot from Toni's class on mindfulness and stress management in terms of reducing stress in my life, coping with stress when it arises, and prioritizing my well-being. The last part is important - as graduate students, it's easy to lose oneself in projects and teaching work. Reminding myself that I *deserve* attention from myself somehow needed to be learned, but I am glad I did. My semester was super busy and I fell behind in the class, but Toni helped me carve out a plan that allowed me to complete the course - deeply grateful for that. Also, the course is well structured and I'd recommend it to anyone looking to improve their quality of life through increased mindfulness. PS: ignore my "easiness" rating. I have no idea what that's supposed to mean. | |
Toni is one of the best teachers, academic or non academic, I have ever had. She is exceedingly knowledgeable and will help guide you through a journey of understanding your body and it's limits. While her classes are not the easiest, she starts the semester easier and builds based on where the class is. I have now taken three of her classes. I have gotten stronger and more flexible, improved my mobility and found a new hobby! Toni's classes significantly improve my overall quality of life. Thank you Toni!! | |

Toni is very encouraging and understanding. If you have physical limitations or aren’t completely comfortable with your body, the asynchronous class is a great way to bring yoga into your life without it being super intimidating. I feel like I have the fundamentals down well enough that I can always keep them with me. I feel healthier and stronger and I’ve lost weight. I highly recommend taking vinyasa with Toni. | |

Toni is one of the most motivating professors I have ever had. She pushes you, provides clear expectations, and doesn't let you give up on yourself. Every day in her class she'd get us to push our limits (safely!!), while keeping it actually fun and exciting. Her instructions were clear, although her expectations made sure you didn't cheat yourself. Her one rule was to just show up because that's the hardest step, which was true, once you're there you don't want to leave, and it's a great experience getting to mentally and physically challenge yourself in a safe, helpful environment without peer pressure! Absolutely loved the class and being able to separate your weekly lecture schedule with a required physical activity is 100% worth it. | |
This instructor will push you out of your comfort zone in terms of exercise ability; however, she does not expect anyone to be a star athlete. She challenges her students through exercise in the most beneficial way possible and does not hold everyone to the same standard. All students taking her courses have the ability to succeed. If you ask questions when you do not know how a specific exercise is performed and do everything in your ability to attend every class meeting especially on time, you will excel in her course. | |
I felt a strong difference in my core throughout the semester. Toni is a supportive and inspiring instructor and makes full use of the hour. Be sure to consistently come to classes because it can be a hassle to make up and you could lose your momentum. I preferred her in-person classes much more than online classes as it was more interactive! | |

Toni is a great instructor! I had never really done yoga before taking her classes, and I definitely would do it again. She makes it clear that you just need to try your best. The main thing is making sure to attend all scheduled classes. Discipline is big, and this is a great way to start the day. | |
Professor Mar's class has been the highlight of my college experience here at Berkeley. I really recommend to every student who can to take at least one class with her. Not only is it extremely benefitial for your physical health, your mind, heart and soul will thank you too. The professor is kind, understanding, funny, yet still rigorous and serious in her teachings. If you enjoy doing Youtube workout videos, this is like the Chanel version of that. I have always suffered from anxiety and stress, and at my previous college it was all about academics, so I am really glad to be able to attend this kind of class that helps you grow in other ways. She also has an extremely cute dog who sometimes comes to class, which is a major plus! The music is also very cool, specially when she plays the TopGun soundtrack! Really really recommend this class, I wish I could take it forever! | |
Toni is an amazing teacher who truly cares about her students and their progress. Her courses (conditioning and mindfulness and stress management) have helped my mental and physical health tremendously. She is very kind and teaches in a way that is easy to understand. The concepts she shares in her courses can be carried to all areas of life. She also has a very soothing persona that makes her students feel at ease. I have taken two different classes with Professor Mar and they were both great! I do weight training for powerlifting/bodybuilding but my time in her yoga class "Vinyasa Yoga 1" was truly great. I was able to train my muscles in a way I typically don't and I learned so much related to both yoga/stretching and my typical weightlifting work because of Professor's background in kinesiology. I would definitely recommend her courses for anyone looking to try a new kind of fitness or mindfulness (regardless of fitness level and body type!) |
