Definitely Del is not a good advisor. He is old, and incompetent. He earn his salary not from success of students. I wonder how university kept him as a professor while he blatantly misused his position to block graduate students from completion of their program of study.

I didnt mean to give him two stars. and yes I know he went to europe alone and never celebrated his students by taking them with him. It was all about him. You are all quite correct, in case you need any further validation. You all should have been far better treated.

This is my father. He sabotaged me also. In all the familiar ways you are all talking about. He is abusive. It is my understanding that he is no longer teaching, which is good. I am very grateful to read these ratings and realize that I am not alone. Nor are you. This is what he does.

I returned to university to get MS in mechanical engineering after the worst economic slowdown. I had been unemployed for a long time. Delbert interviewed me and assured that he will give me unemployment benefits. As I began working for him, I realized that he would not provide any such benefits. He became cruel soon after. I could not endure unrequited apathy. I switched my department to civil engineering - it was worth it. I got a better and trustworthy adviser.

I gave Prof. Delbert Tesar several ideas about products in meetings at Pickle Research Campus for his US patent App. 14/195,603, 2014 and App. 14/195,847, 2014. I hoped that he put up name of several students who worked with him to design product. He didn't. Instead he greedily took all the ideas and filed patent on his name only. When I approached university officials about the rampant dishonesty and betrayal, I was told to limit myself to being a student. I am never going to take Del as my dissertation adviser. When a faculty member doesn't believe in ethics, it sends a bad message to incoming students, and scholars.

There are tons of fun things to do in Austin than sit in Tesar's class. He is mean, and cold. He treats his coworkers as a piece of meat. Most of the decisions are taken like a dictator. Women and minority students are routinely subjected to mockery. Unless you want to be screwed, avoid him as much as you can.

After working for few years in oil and gas industry, I came to UTA to get a PhD. I never had to write a single program due to managerial nature of my work. When I asked Del to let me refresh my skills in programming, he mocked me that I should have known it before joining the program of study. I wanted to sit through the course because it has been years since I did any programming. He wouldn't let me sit through C course. Soon Del told me that my English is so bad that I will never graduate in a PhD program. To prove his word, he coerced me to take extremely hard classes. Surprisingly I didn't do so bad. Since he had inevitable plans for me, he quickly blamed me for not doing good research (This was very subjective). Later he said that as a student I don't have any rights. Next day he terminated support to my program of study.

He royally screwed my chances to graduate in time. He feigned helplessness in advising me. I could not graduate in time. Consequently it left a bad impression on my potential employers. I am still jobless.

I am a bilingual and I alternately think amidst two languages. This is a good thing, but Prof. Delbert told me that my English is not good and I cannot graduate no matter what. He forced me to take hard classes and when my grades dropped, he quickly terminated support to my program of study. He is mean ... very mean.

I do not recommend a course so outdated and taught by old school professor. I lost my interest in robotics forever. His favorite play is to ask you to trust him and then dispose you like a can in trash. He is not a thesis/dissertation adviser either.

He gave me several non-important tasks like picking books for him from ECAC library, making coffee for him, etc. He made me trust that I am being useful to him. Suddenly he took away my electronic access to Robotics group at Pickle Research Campus by citing reasons that he will not support my program of study in robotics. I lost my interest in robotics. He generally has no plans for his graduate students. He openly mocks everybody at Pickle by saying that they all are expendables. He ruined lives of several graduate students to take their work and further his career. He is an unethical professor who promotes indentured servitude of graduate students.

His class on robotics and automation is extremely hard. I wonder how department has sustained such an old school professor. The reason is Tesar had a salary of $154,840, which is 1.9 times greater than the average of all DEPARTMENT OF MECHANICAL ENGINEERING employees ($80,001) and 3.6 times greater than the average Texas state employee ($43,609). That is all. He sucks at teaching. Teaching is a face saving exercise. Several of his students gave up robotics program midway because he couldn't keep them motivated. I would skip his class for good sake.
