How to Stay Fit at The Ohio State University
Now that classes are starting again, many students are worried about gaining the “college fifteen,” but going to college does not necessarily mean you have to pack on the pounds. The Ohio State University offers many substitutes for unhealthy, but common, eating habits. For example, instead of opting for a side of fries, try one of the healthier options like fruit or hummus. Healthy sides are available at every food court on campus.
Ohio State allows students to electronically look up the nutritional facts of every meal served at the university. Any individual can select the meal they are interested in and personalize it by adding or subtracting any aspects of the meal. Once they are done, the entire meal’s nutrition information is at their finger tips. Everything from number of calories to milligrams of sodium is obtainable.
Setting aside the importance of a healthy and balanced diet, the university also provides its members with plenty of opportunities to partake in an active lifestyle. Ohio State has five recreational facilities available on campus: Jesse Owens North, Jesse Owens South, Jesse Owens West Tennis Center, the Outdoor Adventure Center, and the Recreation and Physical Activity Center. In addition, outdoor facilities are also accessible. Tennis, basketball, and sand volleyball courts are only a few of the outdoor amenities located on the university’s campus.
The Recreation and Physical Activity Center (RPAC) is the largest fitness facility on the Ohio State campus. The gym is roughly 27,500 square feet in size and includes twelve multipurpose rooms, which are available for a variety of fitness classes. The RPAC offers access to the student wellness center, massage therapy, and personal training. With all of the accommodations the university has to offer, staying healthy and being active is simple, yet enjoyable.
There are even organizations on campus that focus specifically on fitness. Whether it is a club sport or a weekly workout group, there are several possibilities to be active and meet new people! Joining a group can keep you focused on your goal and motivate you to keep up the good work.
