Five Facebook Profile Pics You'll See in College
Let’s face it: Facebook is most likely a fact of life if you’re between the ages of 15 and 25. At 20, I fall squarely within that range. What’s more, as a Facebook user with two years of college behind me, I’ve begun to notice certain things about how college and Facebook intersect. Nowhere is this more evident than with college students and their go-to profile pictures. So, without further ado, I present the five Facebook profile pics you’ll see in college.
First up is the senior picture. I’ll freely admit to currently using some of my favorite senior pics for my profile picture. True, two and a half years have passed since they were taken, but not much has changed. Getting senior pictures taken is a big deal, and we all try to look our best in them, so why not use them even after high school has passed?
Next is the profile pic that hasn’t been changed since sophomore year – of high school. This person most likely doesn’t use Facebook very often and may have used it a bit to get to know people at the start of college. Still, they probably weren’t too fond of Facebook to begin with. They’re also completely fine with changing their profile pic twice every decade, thank you very much.
The third Facebook profile pic you’ll see in college is the one that changes often. “Often” can mean every day or two. In some cases, however, “often” can sometimes seem like every hour. You log out of Facebook to write that paper, come back later and refresh your newsfeed, and bam – same person, different profile pic. People generally take a lot of pictures in college, and some simply like to share theirs via ever-changing Facebook prof pics.
Fourth on the list are the many varieties of profile pics related to Greek life, whether it’s a picture from a sorority or fraternity formal, a graphic for an upcoming philanthropic event, or sorority sisters demonstrating how to “throw what you know.” I can’t be the only one who’s scrolled down my newsfeed and had trouble identifying Facebook friends because they all have their profile pictures changed to the same picture for a sorority or fraternity event!
The fifth profile pic you will see is the picture taken during study abroad. Since I attend a college with an extremely high percent of students who study abroad, profile pictures featuring the Eiffel Tower, Taj Mahal, or other equally epic world landmark are incredibly common. As someone who has not studied abroad, and most likely will not, I think it’s fun to scroll down my newsfeed and see my classmates enjoying their time in so many different places around the world.
