I've been watching you and...
It’s spring time in College Station. The sun is shining, the grass is green, shorts and flip flops are the campus uniform. What could be missing?
Well, after attending Breakaway (Texas A&M’s weekly on-campus ministry) thousands of students would give you the same answer: Love.
Breakaway’s Ben Stuart has begun a new series on the Song of Songs, and it’s effects are setting in. Song of Songs is like “an instruction manual to love” that Ben said teaches us “what can and should be” in relationships. It takes readers through the process of a new relationship, one that is done right.
During his lesson last week, Ben told a story of his sister being approached by a guy on campus. The approacher told her that he had watched her around campus; watched the way she treated others, how kind she was, the way she lived life. He was simply asking for the opportunity to spend time with her and for an openness to see how things could progress. Although Ben’s story seemed like a triumph of an underdog, the built up suspense was let down with a denial. She did not feel the same way.
Still, Ben encouraged our Aggie men to take this approach: the respectful one. He urged them to communicate, but to also give an ability of escape in doing so. As he continues his series on the Song of Songs, we may experience a phenomenon on campus. Take a look around the Commons or at Evans Library, and maybe you’ll catch it in action. Left and right, the awkward phrase “I’ve been watching you and…” might become the norm. Don’t worry girls, they mean well. And what better time to start? It is spring after all.
