New Minority Professional Society at Miami

By Samantha Callender on June 17, 2013

The National Association of Black Journalist is a national organization that is a network for professionals of color within the journalism and communication fields. From student journalist to working professionals, NABJ allows it’s members to network with each other through social media, email, and even annual conferences. Local student editors and CNN news anchors alike are a part of the organization that’s been around since 1975.

Miami’s campus has recently gained its own Chapter of NABJ. While the organization’s members are greatly composed of African American members, the organization does not limit it self to such demographics. Minority students or those who identify as students of color are welcome to join so long as they are seeking a major/minor in journalism, communication, or english.

The MU chapter of NABJ will begin having it’s meeting regularly during the school year to plan events. Programs the organization anticipates are networking events with area journalist, campus discussions on media, and hosting a banquet for leaders in the Miami community.
