Review of Osakaya Restaurant

By Uloop Archives on May 13, 2013

Just the other day, I had a food adventure with my roommate. She recommended me a great place in Japan Town named Osakaya and told me she was in love with their curry chicken. I decided to give the place a try.

It didn’t take too long for us to be seated, but right after we were finished glancing over the menu, it did take them a little while to get back to us. I figured it was because the place was busy. My roommate ordered the Chicken Katsu while I ordered the Super Dynamite rolls. The great part of the food service was how quickly we were given our meals; however, I unfortunately have to say my experience there was not as favorable as my roommate’s. The portion sizes of the Super Dynamite rolls were large and fill you up quickly, but not in a good way. The tuna slices, avocado, and everything else contained in those rolls probably take up merely thirty percent of the roll and the rest is white rice. Plus, the white rice was also warm, which tastes peculiar in my opinion.

I tried a small part of my roommate’s Chicken Katsu, and it was actually quite delicious. The curry and chicken were light, flavorful, and filling. Also, I found it a better deal rather than the sushi rolls, since not only is it slightly cheaper than most of the special rolls, but it also comes with a salad on the side. The portion of the Chicken Katsu was very large as well, so you get your money’s worth. If you were to dine here, I would recommend choosing one of the lunch specials if you are present during 12 PM to 5:30 PM.

If I were to rate this restaurant, I would give it a three out of five. The service was not the best. Although I was impressed by the fast service, it took a while to receive your check. I waved my hand at least three times before having someone come over. It was especially discouraging when during those three times, someone had seen me but chose not to come over to our table or somehow forgot. We also requested for separate bills, but one of the workers said they were unable to do that. The food itself isn’t that special either and is like any other Japanese restaurant.
