They say that once you pop, you can’t stop, but soon, a new device that attempts to solve the over-eating issues that has caused our nation’s obesity epidemic will be on the market.

The product is called HAPIfork, and it’s a revolutionary solution to prevent people from eating too fast while tracking their eating habits. It essentially tells you when to say no to your delicious platter that potentially contains a high caloric value. Created by French innovators, they hope that their product will be used to combat the obesity trend with subtle reminders to help to during the dining experience. There are two ways in which the HAPIfork alerts eaters of eating too fast; one is with a slight vibration, and the other is with an indicator light. It’s like having the benefits of your mother being there without having to invite her over for dinner.

Aside from the forks immediate reminders, the product also offers other ways to keep you on track with your weight-loss goals. The information that is generated from each meal that you use the fork is recorded, including: how long it took you to eat your meal, the amount of “fork servings” (i.e. each bite) taken per minute, and the intervals between said, “fork servings.”

You’re probably wondering what you would do with this information stored in something you stash in your kitchen drawer, and here’s where the French prove themselves to be geniuses. At the bottom of the fork, which is machine washable, there is a USB feature, which you can plug into your computer. Once it is opened in your online dashboard through HAPILABS.com, you can chart your progress and manage all your data. From there, you can then create workout goals and score points through HAPIfork challenges, which can also be transferred to their mobile app.

You can preorder your HAPIfork today through their Kickstarter website, as the item will soon become a hot commodity. Staying on track has never been easier and it’s all thanks to your new four-pronged friend. Weighing in at only one-fifth of a pound, it’s a functional and portable tool to help you shed those unwanted lbs on the go.
