Up & Coming in SF: What’s There To Do?
By Cecilia Abate on April 19, 2013
Most of us San Francisco State students are new to the area. It can be a little overwhelming: it’s not that there’s nothing to do, it’s simply that there seems to be too much activity to keep track of everything.
So, what’s new and good in SF? Here’s a little breakdown.
The San Francisco Zoo has a newcomer that you can’t miss – a beautiful 2-month-old Sumatran tiger cub. You can view her with her mother during select hours (2-4 PM) at the Lion House, but walk softly: her big debut was only a few weeks ago and she is still getting used to visitors. Keep an eye out in early May for her naming fundraiser.
If you grew up in San Francisco – or even the surrounding counties – you went to the Exploratorium. However, this historic science museum has been out of service for the past five months because it was moving down to Pier 14, where you can find its doors newly opened and all of its exhibits revamped. Take a peek at the new Exploratorium and experience interactive science in a whole new setting, but beware the flood of tourists at the piers.
Want more science dropped on you? Good news if you live in the Sunset or Parkside districts, because you get a free day at the Academy of Sciences. Grab your ID and zipcode and sign up for the museum’s email list to make sure you don’t miss your zip’s free day, scheduled for April 19th, 20th, and 21st. Take a look at the rules here: http://sf.funcheap.com/event-series/california-academy-sciences-neighborhood-free-days/
Hang out with goats at the Ferry Building for a while. No, seriously. It’s Goatfest, where you can sample fresh goat cheese, goat milk, and shop for other sustainable products. (Or just sit around with goats.)http://sf.funcheap.com/annual-goat-festival-ferry-building/
Make April a busy month by taking advantage of all (or at least some of) these activities. If none of these catch your eye, fear not, because this list is the mere tip of the iceberg for what’s happening in San Francisco this month.
