On Campus After Spring Break: Now What?

You’ve finally made it back on campus, you’re stuff is unpacked, you’ve made your last minute rounds to Wal-Mart for groceries before rushing your parents back off campus. The dining halls just don’t compare to any food you have back home and that girl/guy you met in CALC 2 still hasn’t accepted your friend request. Unfortunately, you have made it to the point where you’re sitting in your dorm room on your lime green bean bag thinking now what? Coming back to campus after a fun spring break by the beach or at home relaxing can seem daunting and dreadful. All you can think about is class, finals, homework, waking up early and that same old boring routine. You start getting into that in between spring and summer break period when time just seems to move so slowly.

Now what? Urbana’s what. Urbana is usually seen as Champaign’s artsy little sister. Fortunately for us, it’s true. Urbana is home to the well known Canopy Club. The Canopy Club is open to those eighteen and over, unlike its Champaign counterpart where you have to be nineteen. The Canopy Club is well known for its popular live music, bands, dubstep and live DJs– and Urbana is not just known for its music.

A cozy and relaxed atmosphere surrounds you when you walk in downtown Urbana. You can find an array of artsy stores, restaurants, hipster coffee shops and vintage stores. The best part is that no one ever goes into Urbana so you’re bound to find something new, fun or creative to do.

Urbana is unlike its Champaign older sister. While both places are fun, friendly and lively, Urbana is very down to Earth. Let’s not forget Urbana has the Sweet Corn Festival every year. You can discover a lot of new art-related stores and galleries. And if you are an aspiring artist just stop by and find out how you can display your work. Urbana has a very chill and laid back vibe that is perfect for first dates, hanging out with friends or just exploring something new on your own. And hey? Who knows who you will meet. So if you’re looking for a cool, calm, new, exciting and laid back place to chill out aside from your dorm room after break then Urbana is the place for you.
