DU on the Web: The Best DU-Related Websites
Spring break is ending, and syllabus week of spring quarter is rapidly approaching. What better way to go about enjoyably wasting time as you get reacquainted with having to go to class and do homework than by visiting some of the best DU-related websites and Facebook pages out there? There are many to choose from, and I’m going to tell you all about them.
What Should We DU? is a wildly popular Tumblr started by a still-anonymous DU student. Started in October 2012 and updated regularly, it combines DU experiences that all of us can relate to with appropriate, funny GIFs. The creator, who has admitted to being a junior, seems to have an uncanny way of zeroing in on what makes DU, well, DU, and pairing each wry and true observation with a hilarious GIF that might just make you fall out of your seat laughing (maybe even in class). Trust me – this is probably the most awesome, and addictive, DU-related Tumblr out there.
If you’re looking for a page that will genuinely make you smile simply by reading it, just visit the DU Compliments Facebook page. Although the admin has not yet revealed their identity, they clearly state that their aim is to “spread the love at DU” by creating a page where anyone can send them a message containing a compliment for another Pioneer. Plus, it’s an amazing way to share a compliment about someone that one may feel self-conscious about saying to this person’s face. As stated on this Facebook page, the idea originated at Queens University as well as Columbia, and it has since spread to a great deal of colleges, including DU. If you have something nice to say to a fellow DU student, just friend request DU Compliments on Facebook, send them a message, and let the complimenting begin!
DU Hook-Ups is yet another DU-related Facebook page, many of which seem to have popped up during fall and winter quarters. The content is a lot like it sounds from the title of the page (you may want to skip this one if you find this type of subject matter objectionable), and the premise is straightforward. Students are invited to share hook-up stories via Facebook message to the page’s anonymous creator, and all posts remain anonymous unless a match is found (in this way, it also functions as a kind of “missed connections” for hook-ups).
Another favorite DU-related page of mine is DU Confessions. You can read my profile of this crimson-and-gold-splattered spinoff of PostSecret, albeit sans postcards, here.
