Jon Cozart's Disney Parody is Better Than 'Gangnam Style'

By Tanaz Ahmed on March 24, 2013

The BP oil spill, the war on terror, bestiality, and cannibalism are the future of many beloved Disney princesses, according to Jon Cozart, a youtuber with 449,000 subscribers and a college student in Austin, Texas.

“If you’ve ever wondered why, Disney’s tales all end in lies. Here’s what happened after all their dreams came true,” Cozart sings in his newest video, “After Ever After,” which has garnered over five million views in a span of one week.

Known as “Paint” on Youtube, Cozart is popular for the brilliantly embellished lyrics, amidst his pitch perfect singing and video editing skills, which sometimes involves two or more of Cozarts harmonizing.

In his new video, Cozart discovers what happens to the Disney princess characters–Ariel, Jasmine, Belle and Pocahontas–after their “happily ever after”: Ariel is in tragedy because of the BP oil spill while Prince Ali is being held at Guantanamo Bay; Belle is accused of bestiality; and Pocahontas eats the hearts of Spanish men.

The Disney’s misrepresentation of history and minorities in its films is one of the main targets of Cozart’s sharp satire, as he parodies the cliched nature of Disney princesses. Pocahontas has decided to become a cannibal because she can no longer tolerate the Europeans’ abuse of the native population. Cozart’s rendition of the princesses in real life reveals the naïvety of their perfect lives in the films.

These princess stories also serve as keen and insightful social commentary on America’s involvement in the Middle East, Japan’s corrupt whaling industry, gender imbalance regarding marriage, and many more. For instance, Jasmine is in despair because Prince Ali has been unfairly accused of being a part of the Taliban; Ariel hysterically announces, “Chinamen feast on Flounder’s fins/Plus the Japanese killed all my whale friends”; Belle, unlike being celebrated for her courage for melting the Beast’s heart in the movie, in the real world is labeled as a “whore” for marrying the Beast.

In this four-minute video, Cozart brings out many of the pressing issues present in our society, while managing to turn these otherwise serious problems into a hilarious parody, which both entertains and informs viewers.
