5 Hilarious Parody Music Groups
Aren’t parodies fantastic? Not only do they leave a tremendous amount of room for artistic creativity, but they can be both entertaining and informing. Watching parodies can transform a bad day into a tolerable one, create connections between friends, and aid you in assignment procrastination.
Here are five of my favorite hilarious parody music groups:
Tim Hawkins is by far one of my favorite comedians. Hawkins’ comedy is a type that can appeal to a family audience, with clean song lyrics and friendly stand-up comedy routines. But don’t let this fool you; Hawkins is beyond hilarious and sarcastic in everything that he does. One of my favorite songs of his is “The Government Can,” a spoof on the song “The Candy Man Can” from the movie Willy Wonka. Check out the music video here:

As a Christian, Hawkins also creates many parodies relating to his faith. He transformed the popular “Hey There Delilah” by the Plain White T’s into “Delilah — the Samson verson” based on the story of Samson and Delilah in the Bible. Here is a link to a live performance of this song:

Next to Tim Hawkins, my favorite Christian parody band is Apologetix. This group takes on anyone from the Beach Boys to Eminem in order to create intriguing, intricate lyrics. One of my favorites is the band’s parody of Eminem’s “The Real Slim Shady” entitled “The Real Sin Savior.” I love Apologetix because not only are their songs extremely creative, but the songs serve a purpose in spreading the band’s beliefs. What better way to talk about what you love than through song? Here’s a link to “The Real Sin Savior.” (Unfortunately, this “video” is really just the song lyrics, but they prove helpful in this case):

Weird Al — need I say more? I’m not sure that I have met anyone that has not heard of Yankovic. ”Eat it,” his parody of “Beat it” by Michael Jackson, has always been one of my favorites. Yankovic’s parodies are enjoyable because of the videos that he creates with them. His impression of Michael Jackon always cracks me up. Here’s the link:

If Gaga is more your style, check out “Perform This Way” (warning: Yankovic will go to great lengths for entertainment):

This group is one of my favorites from my high school years. Their detailed music videos largely mock artists and poke fun at celebrity gossip. However, they take a different route with their parody of Psy’s largely popular “Gangnam Style” with “Kim Jong Style.” I think their videos are hilarious, but I will throw out the disclaimer that some of them are a bit crude. You can check out “Kim Jong Style” here:

5. Average joe parodies on Youtube
Sometimes the best parodies are those made by average joes on YouTube. If you ever have some time to kill, look up YouTube parodies. One of my favorites is “Instagram” by a group called CollegeHumor. This song, a parody of Nickleback’s “Photograph,” pokes fun at the way people use Instagram nowadays to take pictures of almost anything — including their breakfast or newest fingernail paint job.
