It’s Spring Time, It’s Break Time: TGI Spring Break
Never have I (and honestly the entire campus) needed this upcoming so-close-yet-so-far spring break so desperately. Hanging on for dear life is one way to put it; scraping by is also accurate. The last vestiges of human sanity are escaping us by the minute, but this break will hopefully restore some (all would be a stretch) brain capacity for the rest of the spring semester. Here are some ideas for you to peruse through as you pine for the hour to come when you can sit down, open Netflix, and watch endless hours of TV with no academic repercussions.
1) If you’re on campus…
Take advantage of a smaller campus population for this week-plus. Indulge in some long showers and comfy popular campus spots (Kendade Fishbowl, anyone?) or go on an adventure by exploring the library passageways and your potential new residence halls. Spring cleaning is also an option: pack up some winter things to give yourself a more open space during upcoming stressful times and fewer things to manage at the end of the semester when you move out.
2) If you’re going home…
Eat great food, see great people. It’s a no brainer that these should be at the top of your spring break bucket list if you’re going home, but make an effort to maximize your time there, especially if you’re not within driving distance. Home is in some respect not where you’re currently spending the most time at, so it’s important to integrate this part of your life as much as possible when you have the chance.
3) If you’re taking a trip…
Forget everything and just have the time of your life! Yes, college responsibilities are still going to be here when you return, but while you’re gone and having fun, don’t let anything else put a damper on your mood! Try new things! Eat new foods, buy new clothes, see new perspectives, visit new (to you) landmarks. Take memorable pictures and make memorable memories. We of course regret our actions, but we regret more our lack of actions.
4) Anywhere.
Sleep. Find a nearby bed and plop yourself down for some down time, because April will most likely come with a whirlwind of stuff to do, consequence stress, and no time to take a breather. Conk out for a long, luxurious night, conk out for a relaxing afternoon nap… make rest a priority. Prepare your mind and your body to fully showcase your abilities in the trial to come.
Fun fact: while googling “spring break” for potential images to capture the essence of this article, the overwhelming response of 100% was pictures of nearly naked young adults on a beach on a sunny day, most likely in Cancun or some similarly vacation-y spot. So as a response, I subsequently give you these tips: be responsible in whatever you choose to do, and don’t return to campus having faced traumatic life-changing decisions if you can help it.
