More Impressive Streak, Heat or Blackhawks?

Both NHL and NBA fans have been lucky this winter, as they both been able to watch two of the most impressive win streaks that we have seen in either sport in a long time. Both the Miami Heat and the Chicago Blackhawks have just been dominant as of late. The Blackhawks have been on a tear out of the gate,  posting a 21-0-3 record so far to start the NHL season, and setting the franchise record for most consecutive games with a point. The Miami Heat have hit their stride at the right time, heading into the final stretch of the NBA season they have won an unbelievable 16 straight games, also setting a franchise record for consecutive wins. This has left many sports fans posing the question, which streak is more impressive?

For the Heat, their streak equals the 12th longest in NBA history, but it is really how they have been playing during this stretch that makes the win streak so impressive. Most of this has been fueled by the play of front runner for MVP this season, Lebron James. James has just elevated his play to a whole new level averaging 27 points, 8 rebounds and 7 assists per game, and making it look easy. The Heat have had big wins at home and on the road during this streak, including a recent win over the New York Knicks at Madison Square Garden, which featured James taking over the game in the 4th quarter and sealing the game with a huge slam dunk.

For the Blackhawks, their streak is being called one of the greatest starts to a season by any franchise in any sport. And most hockey fans would say that it is not even a question of which streak is more impressive, as the Blackhawks are just five games away from trying the Detroit Red Wings’ streak of 35 straight games with a point. So comparing that to the Heat’s win streak, 12 best all time, it would seem obvious that the Hawks streak is more impressive. But it all depends on who your talk to.

One thing we can be sure of, is that each of these teams has a very good chance to continue this streak on Friday, when they are both back in action. The Heat will face the Philadelphia 76ers in Miami, where they are a dominant 27-3 at home this season, and the 76ers who have been struggling as of late, will have to pull of a huge upset to end the Heat’s streak. The Blackhawks will be taking on the Colorado Avalanche in Denver, where they will meet an Avalanche team who has also been struggling as of late, 3-4-3 in their last 10 games. The Hawks are hoping that their star player so far this season, Patrick Kane, who has 12 goals and 15 assists  already this year, can keep up his fantastic play.

Sports fans, enjoy these streaks while they last, because this caliber of play is far from ordinary, and who knows how long it will be until we see this again in either sport.
