The Diets you Need to Try

By Amanda Andary on March 3, 2013

With spring break rapidly approaching, and long list of News Years resolutions to fulfill, most girls are turning to fad diets to whip themselves into shape. While some extreme diets will help you lose pounds fast and make you feel great, others just promote crankiness, and a lack of energy. After my first attempt at rapid weight loss, which consisted of eating only apples for four days straight, I vowed to never try a detox again because it wasn’t worth being that miserable. However, a couple years later I got over my fear of being that famished from a diet, and tried a few detoxes that seemed much healthier for me. Here are the three diets I found most effective:

First, The General Motors Diet. This diet consists of eating very specific foods for seven days in a row. The 1st day you only consume fruits. I found this day to be the most challenging because my stomach wasn’t accustomed to me eating so little.  The 2nd day was a little easier because you are allowed to start off with a baked potato in the morning, and rely on only vegetables for your source of nutrition. If you make it to the 3rd day you are challenged to eat only fruits and vegetables. However, this excludes the consumption of potatoes and bananas. The 4th day I found a little strange, because you are told to only eat bananas and at least three glasses of milk. By this point in the diet I had became a lot more used to the limited amounts of food I was receiving, therefore, it enabled me to push through. The 5th day instructs you to eat only beef and tomatoes. I would have to say I really disliked this day considering I’m not a huge fan of beef or tomatoes. For the next two days of The General Motors Diet are fairly simple. Day Six requires that you eat only beef and vegetables, and by Day Seven you are allowed to eat brown rice, vegetables, and drink fruit juices. When you have completed this diet you will probably feel pretty accomplished, and perhaps up to 15lbs lighter. I definitely felt great after doing this and it even encouraged to begin eating healthy regularly. I would highly recommend reading up on the internet for the rest of the details that come along with this cleanse.

The popularity of the next diet I’m about to talk about, was what inspired me to try it. Not to mention, it absolutely has to be the healthiest. I am referring to the Paleo Diet. The Paleo Diet is when your food consumption consists of only foods that “hunters-gathers” would have thrived on in the Paleolithic era. This means absolutely no processed food, dairy products, refined sugars, and etc. This will also prevent you from a long list of illness’ that you may find when eating really unhealthy. I definitely saw the most results with this particular diet, but found it really easy to break due to the amount of “non-paleo” foods I encountered from day to day.

Lastly comes my favorite diet, The Atkins Diet. Almost everyone has heard of this, and has maybe even attempted it. It, without a doubt, is challenging at first, but after the first few days you will feel great which has a long term effect, meaning that you will be able to stick with diet much longer. The Atkins diet make you cut out carbs completely! No bread, no sugar, or anything else along those lines. At times it will be a real challenge, but you will be surprised with the options you actually have.

Whatever diet you choose to do, just make sure you are being safe and obtaining the right amount of nutrients you need!
