National Chocolate Mint Day!
By Britney Clapp on February 19, 2013
According to the National Confectioners Association, February 19 is Chocolate Mint Day! In honor of that special chocolate day, I thought I’d share some delicious ways to celebrate.
- Ben & Jerry’s Mint Chocolate Cookie Ice Cream: Ben & Jerry’s is always a winner in my book. You don’t have to make it, and the “Where to Find It” locator on its website comes in handy. No driving around aimlessly trying to find your favorite flavor! Unfortunately, the froyo and greek yogurt variations do not come in Mint Chocolate.
- It’s Girl Scout Cookie season, which means that Thin Mints are being sold practically everywhere. If you cannot find a location, you’re in luck. There actually is an app for that. One for the iPhone and for the Android to be exact. Find out more information on the Girl Scout website. Buy some Thin Mints (and some other cookies) to support your local Girl Scout Troops and enjoy with your roommates.
- McDonald’s has its annual Shamrock Shake out right now. Simply ask for some chocolate syrup or add your own chocolate pieces to complete the shake.
Not all chocolate mint varieties need to be store bought. You can easily whip up some of your own concoctions, giving yourself healthier alternatives.
- Chocolate Covered Katie, a blog dedicated to all things chocolate and dessert, has many delicious recipes. While many of the recipes contain seemingly strange ingredients, such as tofu or spinach, trust the recipe. It can’t hurt to try, right? You may find your new favorite way to celebrate Chocolate Mint Day!
- Mint Chocolate Fudge Pie lists tofu as the key ingredient that gives the pie its shape. Try it out for a healthy alternative to processed ice cream or cookies.
- Thin Mint Brownies will never replace Girl Scout Cookie Thin Mints for me. However, these can be a great alternative for someone wanting that chocolate-mint goodness minus the processed food part.
If all else fails, make hot chocolate mixed with peppermint extract or a leftover Christmas candy cane.
Perfection in a glass.
