How To Stay Fit on Campus!

By Anibal Pacheco on February 22, 2013

At the beginning of the semester I set myself fitness goals. To drop some pounds of fat and in turn gain more muscle. 10 pounds of fat to lose by April does not sound hard to do. Yet, I did not know how I was going to achieve my goal. What steps am I going to take for this? How will I keep up my progress? How will I track my progress? Simply setting a goal was not going to be enough. I needed to find out ways to reach my goals. Being a college student on a budget I need something free and accessible. Therefore, I checked the Leach website.

On the Leach Website I checked for fitness classes that were available. I wanted to keep exercising exciting and new, not painful and forceful. Also it would be a great way to meet new people. I mean, what better way is there to make friends then by trying to get through the same class together without dying? Choosing which class that worked with my schedule was also a factor. I wanted one that I would commit to, even if it was after class. I have a habit of sleeping my off days away without being productive. There were classes that required sign-ups. As forgetful as I am, I knew sign-ups were not an option. I didn’t want a spin class or a yoga class either. I was looking more for an exercise class.

The Leach Center has classes that do not require a sign up beforehand. In the end I chose a class called Cardio Xplosion. The class incorporates strength training exercises with cardio. I thought it was a new way to get my cardio in instead of just running. Cardio Xplosion is a part of a group of Cardio and Strength class which don’t require a sign up beforehand. There are other classes like Body Tone, Step N’ Tone, Power Interval, and Kick Boxing.

The Leach Center has many opportunities to help you reach your fitness goals. Not to mention a wide variety of classes. Not only do they have Cardio and Strength training classes with no sign ups. They also have Cardio Strength with sign ups, such as Cardio Party or Xtreme Fit. Not to mention other classes, which also require sign up (now you sign up online!), that fit into groups of Mind & Body, Spinning, and Gravity Training System. All of theses do require sign ups before hand. The Campus Rec site is also a site a great way to help you stay active and healthy. All the while keeping it fun and easy.
