NYFW Fall 2013 Collection Review: Theysken's Theory
There’s always something about Olivier Theyskens, designer of Theyskens’ Theory, that is able to design clothes that are both edgy yet minimalistic at the same time. After recently cutting off a drastic amount of inches off his signature long, shiny black hair, people may have thought that Theyskens wanted to try something new and different for his line. For his Fall 2013 collection, his girls looked extra confident, strong, alluring, yet comfortable while wearing his designs down the runway. This season’s Theysken’s girl seems to be both authoritative but yet still able to maintain her feminine attributes through the clothes that she wears.
For his Fall 2013 collection, Theyskens elongated the length of his blazers to right below the hips, creating a more boy-ish/casual look. However, Theyskens was able to balance the sensuality and the casualness of the look by either not adding a top inside, or having the models wear a low V-cut top inside the blazer, creating a more alluring and feminine tone. Skirts were relatively around the mid-thigh, and were accompanied by a pair of leather thigh-high boots, generating a captivating, exciting and almost provocative appeal to the look. Leather was also a prominent feature to this collection, as it was seen on the gloves that many of the models wore. Towards the middle of the show, models were beginning to appear in turtleneck sweaters, high neck sweaters, quilted skirts and dresses, and loose trouser pants. Oversized coats that reached below the knees were paired up with loose trouser pants, and somewhat revealing tops and dresses began to look more voluminous. Overall, Olivier Theyskens never fails to disappoint the fashion eye, as he is one of the great designers today who is able to balance both minimalism and allurement in his clothes.
