Hotel Transylvania: Adam Sandler Makes a Comeback
Over this past weekend, I was standing in front of a Redbox kiosk, looking for a good way to spend a Friday evening. Unfortunately, the choices were looking rather bleak, so much so that I almost gave up. But alas! I found something that piqued my interest: Hotel Transylvania. Oh yeah, wasn’t that the animated movie about monsters with Adam Sandler? Yes, one and the same! From the previews, it didn’t seem too promising, but I could not have been more surprised. I absolutely loved this film and I will definitely end up owning it in the future.
This film takes a new look at all of the classic monsters, including Count Dracula, Frankenstein’s monster, and the mummy. In this movie, Count Dracula is an overprotective father to his teenage daughter Mavis. He preaches the dangers of the human world and begs her not to venture out into it for her own safety. But it is not just his daughter that he is afraid for; he is afraid for all monsters. That is why he built the Hotel Transylvania. All of the monsters gather there to enjoy a human-free vacation and to celebrate Mavis’s 118th birthday. But when a human manages to infiltrate the hotel, the Count is forced to see the error of his ways and update his views on the human race.
Overall, this movie was absolutely adorable. The idea that Dracula is the one that is overprotective and afraid is actually refreshing in the realm of monster movies. Also, the humor was pretty fresh and not slap-stick, which came as a surprise considering that is Adam Sandler’s forte. After seeing That’s My Boy and Jack and Jill, I am happy to see that Sandler still has some good stuff left in him.
In conclusion, I would definitely recommend this movie! You will not regret it!!
