After the dining hall closes, where is a Pioneer to go to grab a quick bite? Around this time of the quarter, with midterms looming over our heads for the next two weeks, your brain needs a fuel boost around 10 pm at night. But where’s the best places to get those late night bites? Here are my top 5 choices for the best late night restaurants/foods near the University of Denver.

Greeks Gone Wild

2039 S. University Blvd
Sun-Wed: 8 a.m.-12 a.m
Thurs-Sat: from 8 a.m.-3 a.m

Located on University Boulevard, Greeks Gone Wild serves, unsurprisingly, Greek food. The fries, gyros sliced off the skewer, big portions and diverse menu make this a great pick for a late night snack. While it’s definitely no homemade Greek food, the nomnom’s you can find here at 2 a.m. on the weekends are more than satisfying for the hungry college student.

Illegal Pete’s

1744 East Evans Ave
Mon-Wed: 7:00a.m. – 12:00a.m.
Thu-Fri: 7:00a.m. – 2:30a.m.
Sat: 9:00a.m. – 2:30a.m.
Sun: 9:00a.m. – 12:00a.m.

Hands down, the best place around DU to grab some Mexican food. Prepared super fresh, their menu of tacos, burritos, taquitos and more, plus their lively vibe make Illegal Pete’s a score for Pioneers, whether they are coming to grab cheap drinks, watch the sports game, listen to their local, live bands or just grab a quick bite to eat with friends during a study break.

DeliZone

2349 S. University Blvd
Mon-Thurs: 7 a.m.–11 p.m.
Fri: 7 a.m.-2:30 a.m.
Sat: 9 a.m.-2:30 a.m.
Sun: 9 a.m.-11 p.m.

DeliZone, a startup originating from CU Boulder and servings Buffs there, came to the DU area to do the same for us Pio’s. With tasty, unique sandwiches that are both greasy and huge, it’s perfect munchie food for the hardworking or hardly working student. They also deliver if you’re feeling lazy/it’s freaking cold out, as per the Colorado norm, and you can order online at GrubHub.

Jimmy John’s

2075 S. University Blvd
Mon-Sun 11:00am-3am

Tried and true, Jimmy John’s always has your back when you just need a familiar reboost of sub sandwich and maybe a pickle or some chips. The menu, while somewhat sparse, always provides a good fallback option for the night owl college student. Their drivers are troopers, delivering to your residence hall come rain or shine.

Jerusalem’s

1890 E. Evans Ave
Sun-Thurs: 9 a.m. – 4 a.m
Fri-Sat: 9 a.m.-5 a.m.

Ask any Pio where to get food at 3 in the morning, and they’ll most likely tell you “Jerusalem’s.” For over 30 years, this Middle Eastern restaurant has been serving out award-winning pita bread and hummus, and is open til freaking FIVE A.M. Located on the corner of Evans Aveue and High Street, Jerusalem’s is almost equidistant to the north and south ends of campus, making it very accessible. While the restaurant itself is a bit cramped and the service is not exactly all smiles all the time, Jerusalem’s take-out has a very reasonable turn around time.
