Foodie Movies
Food is a part of everyone’s daily life and it has become a standard in film. Directors, actors and producers have been featuring food in their films for decades. I decided that there is no better way to honor a “foodie movie” then by enjoying it with a meal to please! Here are my top five favorite food films, in no particular order, and some delicious and easy recipes to go with them! You can make all of these delicious snacks with ten ingredients or less and spend only a few minutes whipping them up.
Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory (1971): Even though I know we all swoon over Johnny Depp, nothing will ever be better than the original. And, of course, if you are watching a movie about chocolate, you need to be eating chocolate! Hot chocolate is one of my favorites and it always reminds me of when Augustus Gloop falls into the chocolate river.
Julie and Julia (2009): This lovable film, based on the life of both the blogger, Julie Powell and the cooking star Julia Child, is the perfect combination of food and entertainment. Julie and Julia both made a multitude of meals throughout the movie so it was hard to choose just one. Of course, it had to be French, but I wanted it to be something that you and all your friends would be fighting over seconds of. I decided on this Chicken with Mushroom Cream Sauce. It looks delicious and only takes 30 minutes to make. I think I will be trying this one soon!
Chocolat (2000): I know, I know. I already have one chocolate movie on this list but I can’t help it. Everyone likes chocolate! I love the whimsical aspect of this movie. In the movie, Caroline can predict everyone’s favorite chocolate. One of mine is chocolate covered strawberries. Easy to make, these fruity and sweet bites are romantic and fun!
Ratatouille (2007): A story about a rat in a kitchen… it isn’t the most appetizing thought but this adorable and creative movie made me hungry for something savory. If you are in the mood for breakfast, why not try an omelet like the one Remy made for Linguini? Try this amazing Denver omelet recipe. It takes only a few minutes and is a healthy alternative to the usual bagel and cream cheese. Plus, it’s named after my hometown (GO BUFFS!).
And finally, I had to include Supersize Me (2004). I am not going to pretend like this shouldn’t be on the list. It is the quintessential food film. Of course, this one made me gag in a couple places. You have two options here; you can run out to McDonalds and grab a Quarter Pounder (we all do it at one time or another) or you can try a homemade burger with caramelized onions. This one may exceed my 10 ingredient limit depending on what you like on your burger, but is a healthy alternative to fast food.
There are a ton more awesome foodie movies and it was hard to choose my five favorites. Here are a few of the films that almost made the list.
- Diner (1982)
- Waiting (2005)
- Dinner Rush (2000)

- Woman on Top (2000)
- No Reservations (2007)
