February Fashion Fads

By Kyna Garrett on February 1, 2013

On colder campuses, walking in the blowing snow or freezing rain can get us all down. It’s that awkward time between winter and spring when Mother Nature can’t make up her mind between rain and snow or the sun and clouds. So here are some tips on how to dress for Mother Nature’s wrath and keep up with the trends:

Leather

While thought to be more of a fall trend, leather jackets are making their way to winter wear and even more so, spring. Leather skirts are also making an appearance over patterned tights. They provide a decent amount of warmth while looking confident in a blizzard.

The Parka

We’ve seen these around a lot this winter. It’s hard to find a girl on campus without one. Among other brands, The North Face sells these long, fluffy coats. Parkas come in a variety of thicknesses, as well, to keep you at your favorite level of warmth as winter merges into spring.

Ponchos and Pashmina Scarves

Ponchos come in a variety of patterns and thicknesses and can even be sheer, flowing material. They will keep you warm and comfortable. Pashmina scarfs are a type of wide scarf, almost a shawl. These can come in thin materials wrapped loosely around the neck or head.

Chunky Heel

Going out to a party? The thick-heeled pump is appearing everywhere, some even in wood or wicker. No, these won’t keep your little toes cozy, but if you’re a pump kind of girl, these are definitely friendly with snow as they’ll provide more support than a thin heel.
