The Downs of Teen Mom
Admit it. You secretly can’t wait until Monday nights at 10 to tune into your favorite guilty pleasure: “Teen Mom 2.” MTV has created two installments of the popular reality show, with a third on the way.
The show follows four teen mothers as they struggle with raising their babies. “Teen Mom” is a spin-off of “16 and Pregnant,” which features a different pregnant teen each week. Some have to deal with moving out on their own, while others struggles maintaining a relationship with their baby’s father.
While the show proves that raising a baby so young is tough, many of the teen mothers have had more than your average share of tough times. It’s hard to pick up a magazine without seeing something about Farrah Abraham’s plastic surgery or the police record of Amber Portwood and Jenelle Evans.
Portwood began serving a five-year sentence in June for a December 2011 arrest for drugs. She chose not to continue with rehab and chose prison instead. Viewers got to see Amber go through a different stint in rehab on the final season for the original “Teen Mom.” Portwood is now unable to see her daughter, Leah, on a regular basis. Leah is under the care of her father, Gary Shirley, who was shown to have an on-again-off-again relationship with Leah’s mother.
The most recent news coming out of the “Teen Mom” franchise is the recent antics of Jenelle Evans. Evans is mother to Jace, who currently lives with his grandmother, Barbara, after Evans gave her mother custody. Jenelle has been known for her violent relationships, which usually end in rage, with Evans taking to Twitter to let all of her fans know. After marrying Courtland Rogers, Evans made it known that the two were having problems, but the two remained married. Shortly after, Evans announced that she was pregnant and showed a picture of her ultrasound. Evans dealt with more drama surrounding her relationship with Rogers and said she suffered a miscarriage. She also filed charges against her husband.
Today it was announced that MTV is uncertain on the future of “Teen Mom 2.” “No decision has been made yet regarding a fifth season of ‘Teen Mom 2′,” MTV said in a statement. “But the network is planning to air the fourth season this year and will announce the premiere date soon.”
With all the drama, a break from television might be the best idea. But, never fear Teen Mom fans. There is still season four of “Teen Mom 2″ and the first season of the third installment to look forward to.
