Three Productive Things To Do When You're Sick
It’s inevitable, my terrible immune system just can’t compete with the winter season. It’s also partially my fault when I’m too lazy to walk to CVS and buy some more Emergen-C, so in some ways I can’t really complain that I get sick so easily. But waking up to a congested nose and a pounding headache that just won’t seem to go away no matter how much Advil I can take in one day is the worst feeling in the world. Even though I consider myself to be a lazy person when I’m not sick, I can’t help but feel that sickness gives me a great reason to lay on the couch all day and do absolutely nothing. However, even though you may feel like death, there are still some very productive things you can do with your time. Through my time of being sick, I’ve found three things that turned my lazy days into productive ones:
1. Do your homework: …but seriously. Now is not the time to start slacking off.
2. Apply for an internship: I’ve already applied to a couple internships already just because I’ve found myself too bored of watching the same marathons of Sex and the City and America’s Next Top Model. It could be slightly stressful and a little nerve racking, especially when this could make or break your chance at your dream internship for the summer. But with that awesome resume and cover letter of yours, there’s no way you don’t have the time and patience for it.
3. Make a resume or cover letter: Going off of my last note, if you don’t already have a resume or cover letter, now would be a good time to get started on that. Since you’ll probably be online shopping (or online window shopping) for a solid eight hours of your day, give yourself and your credit card a break and type up a resume or cover letter. I know there’s an internship or job you’ve been waiting to get, but stop thinking and start doing. There’s plenty of time to take a look at the online resources on FutureLink or Fisher’s College of Business website that provides guides and how-tos for effective resumes and cover letters, and you’ll also probably have time to send it into your advisor for them to take a look at it.
I know school is probably one of the last things that anyone wants to think about especially when they’re sick. But with a little patience and motivation from the little energy you have left in your immune system, there’s definitely a possibility of being more productive than you think. Besides, if you know you’re gonna be on your computer laying on the couch with the TV on all day anyways, might as well do something with your life in the time being.
