Baby, It's Still Cold Outside

I believe that it should no longer snow after the winter holidays have passed. In a perfect world, winter would end when the holidays end. But if you live in the Midwest, you can feel that we do not live in that world.

Don’t get me wrong, I love winter. However, by the end of January,  I am hardcore itching for some spring/summer weather. The first day of spring is in 56 days; so until then, myself and my fellow warm weather wishers are going to have to bundle up, grin, and bear it.

The high in Michigan today was seven degrees, (don’t even get me started on the wind chill) which is what inspired this outfit. Sometimes, it’s a little difficult to still look fashionable in bulky winter clothing, it’s like you have to sacrifice looking cute in order to stay warm. That’s a myth. You can look cute and be warm, you don’t have to throw on Uggs and a long North Face jacket, in order to stay warm.

Keeping Your Head and Feet Warm
It is extremely important to keep your head and feet warm while battling the winter chill; you lose the most heat from your body through those two.

Now you’re probably thinking, “Oh, if that’s the case, I should wear my Uggs.” No, no you shouldn’t. Stop lying to yourself, there is nothing cute or fashionable about Uggs. They may be warm and cozy, but you end up looking like the Michelin Tire Man when you pair thick coats and Uggs together and there is nothing flattering about that.

Instead of the typical Ugg boot, try a classic pair of lace-up boots with a thick pair of socks. I chose the cashmere socks for added warmth and luxury and the boots for their lace-up feature. Lacing up your boots will help trap warm air in and keep cold air out! Plus, they are way more attractive and less clunky than Uggs.

As for your head, put something on it and ALWAYS wear gloves!!

Not Your Average Coat
Typically when people want a warm coat, they go for pea coats, down coats, or even leather. An overlooked coat is a shearling. Shearling is wool (sometimes fleece) that comes from sheep. What this means is that a shearling coat is lined with wool. Wool also happens to be a natural insulator. So if you decide to sport a shearling coat, you are going to be nice and toasty.
