Temple Run 2

By Kathryne Davis on January 24, 2013

On Jan. 17, a new Temple Run game was released for IOS. The game was the sequel to the very popular original Temple Run, which has been downloaded over 170 million times since its release on August 4, 2011. Imangi Studios is the creator of these addictive games.

The sequel has the same concept as the first, with the runner trying to get away from the fierce monkeys. Instead of three crazy monkeys, like in the first game, the sequel has one large monkey that could give the original three a run for their money. Also, the sequel takes on a 3D look, with more in-depth graphics. While playing the sequel, the gamer feels like they’re along with Guy Dangerous (the default runner), trying to sneak away from the monkey.

Although the games are similar, Temple Run 2 has some significant differences. For instance, green gems are now used. The green gems can be used as extra lives. When the runner “dies” in the end, a bubble pops up that says “Save me!” and gives the amount of gems required to have another life. Gems can also be used for powerups.

Another difference is that there are levels now. The player has to beat the three objectives to move onto the next level. When beating a level, the player can receive different gifts, such as more gems or more coins, depending on the level. This makes the game a little harder than the original because the player could beat the objectives, no matter what level they were on. Meaning that if a player were to score one million points and the objective wasn’t part of the level, it wouldn’t matter and the player would have to score one million points again.

Temple Run 2 is set outside, making it brighter than the first game, therefore more enjoyable. With more sunlight, the fact that someone was trapped and had to run from a terrifying monkey, seems less frightening. The new features (such as hopping on a cart and riding on railroad tracks) make running and jumping fun.

Unlike many other free games, Temple Run doesn’t bother players with useless advertisements and the game is not a demo. Temple Run for the Android will be released soon.
