Are Gun Laws About Guns?

There is one thing that the president does extremely well, actually there are a couple. For starters, he always has the perfect words to play off of people’s emotions in a given situation. Simply put he does not let tragedy go by without offering his perfect policy that will come in and fix everything. Sure, he is upset about the situation, but after a few condolences he always finds a way to throw some new laws in there. Hold that thought. The other that he does well is give a speech. He has all the right words and surroundings to capture our attention and make us believe that he has the solution to whatever problem this nation is facing. Now the question is so what? He is the president that is what presidents do, right?

Maybe, maybe not. The reason I bring this up is because lately every time I open up my computer I see something about gun control. The president has said simply that we need more regulation because guns are a problem that can only lead to tragedy. Now let us be honest with ourselves for a minute, is there anyone who believes that the president did not believe we needed more gun control before this incident happened. I mean this type of policy fits perfectly in with his past large government expansions (see the affordable health care act). But he was never talking about executive orders before, never talking with the urgency that he is now. And that is where this president is brilliant.

This whole country was shaken by what happened in Newtown, including the president, and he knows that. He is talking about executive orders because he knows congress will not vote in favor of his proposed policies. Really? If there was any doubt that the president was exploiting this situation for personal gain, the president shattered it when this past week when he gave a speech using kids who had written to him about their fear of guns as props. I am not saying that these kids should not have written the letters, but what I am saying is, it is completely inappropriate to use children to justify your policy ideas. He is using this window of time when people’s emotions are running high in order to push something that they would normally disagree with, it was only fitting that he would add kids to the mix to really tug at our heart strings. But let me make one thing clear: this president views guns and wealth the same way, if one person is not able to have them then no one is. In other words if someone should not own a gun because he is mentally ill or whatever the reason, then no one else can either, because we are all equally as irresponsible. This is part of his ideology and he knows that we will more likely go along with it after the shooting that took place, but not to worry I am sure he will not make a habit of this, right?
