Fashion Bloggers at Rutgers University

By Jennifer Hsieh on January 22, 2013

When it comes to finding some style inspiration, where do you look? Do you pick up fashion magazines, browse through some street style, or check out runway recaps? Personally, I’ve always loved looking at fashion or style blogs written by people like me who are in the same stage of life. It helps me to envision possible looks that I can see myself wearing. Let’s be real, there’s only a handful of people who can pull off wearing looks straight off the runway to their 8 am Intro to Philosophy class.

Inspiration can come as close as your own campus! Being such a diverse and populated campus, Rutgers University is home to so many fashion and personal style bloggers ranging from the trendy fashionista, the urban designer, to the couture lover. Check out just a few below and feel free to share your own finds in the comments.

Fashion/Personal Style Blogs

Fashion Pirate – Double majoring in Journalism and Gender studies, Arabelle is a fashion blogger who describes her style as “dominatrix librarian”. Her writing is full of passion and her ever-changing style ensures that you’ll never get bored of her darker aesthetic. (pictured above left)

Aetherlily – Melanie is a 21-year-old personal style blogger who is studying towards her degree in Linguistics. She’s been blogging for almost two years now and her looks have a whimsical feel which are usually paired with beautiful locations. (pictured above right)

Castle Fashion – Having just graduated in May 2012, Yasmeen pairs her outfits with quirky and silly commentary, really showing her personality through her blogging.

Inspiration by S – Currently a law school student, Stephanie is a Rutgers 2011 graduate who pursues her passion for fashion through her blog. She shares a plethora of outfits varying from casual to chic to trendy.

JennifHsieh – Oh, is it okay to promote my own blog? Yes? Good. I’m an alumni from Rutgers myself and I blog about my personal style and my day-to-day adventures as a new graduate in New York City. Looking through my archives you can see me posing and making a fool out of myself in various Rutgers locations.

Fashion Magazines

YHM (Young Hot  & Modern) – Founded by current Rutgers senior, Young Hot & Modern is an online female empowerment magazine that strives to give young women a voice in their community. Currently looking for interns and models, they’re definitely a group to watch out for.

College Fashionistas (Rutgers) – With contributing writers from colleges and universities all over the country, College Fashionistas manages to capture different styles from students all over the campus. Maybe you’ll end up on there one day – incentive to put some effort into what you wear to class!

Designers

Crew Love Apparel – Founded by Rutgers students Raymond Croft and Angel Tavarez, these two trendsetters combined their passion for fashion and design to create a line that represents strength.

The Mayflower – May is a recent Rutgers Business School alumni who dabbles in designing and marketing her own clothing, jewelry, and accessories for her Etsy shop, The Mayflower.

Herds of the Fathers - Jason Akoi and his partner Toby Babijive took advantage of e-retail to sell their high-end leather book bags and duffle bags.
