How to Style Up Your College Gear
When it comes to dressing up for a night out or a day trip into the city, the last thing you would think of pulling out of your closet would be your college gear. But let’s be honest, you have so much of it! Within your first college semester, your parents could not wait to buy you multiple sweatshirts and sweatpants with your university’s logo on it because they were just so, so proud that you were getting a higher education. Or they were just incredibly grateful to your university for finally getting you out of the house. Regardless of the reason, there’s always a way take your sweats to the next level and incorporate them into even the most stylish of outfits.
The College Sweatshirt
You’re not really a college student unless you own a sweatshirt with your college logo smacked on the front. Heck, even if you’re not enrolled everyone will think you are with one of these bad boys. It’s usually reserved for cold sporting events, studying in the library, or when your heater stops working in your dorm. Take it to the streets by layering it under a denim or leather jacket – it’s all about layers, especially in the winter. Tone down the sporty feel by pairing the entire look with a skirt and tights boasting feminine details.
The College Sweater
Sweaters and sweatshirts without hoods are the perfect way to show some school spirit in your every day look – just wear them in place of your normal sweater over a dress to stay warm but still show off your legs. Since college sweaters usually hide your figure with their overwhelming silhouette, take advantage of the opportunity to show off your legs instead! You can’t go wrong with black opaque tights, a staple in every girl’s closet.
The College T-Shirt
Unisex college sweatshirts – the bane of a student’s existence. Most of these you got for free and, let’s be real, who can say no to free shit? Definitely not this girl over here. So instead of cutting them up to reveal as much skin as possible (you know who you are), why not just incorporate them into your daily wardrobe so you can actually wear them to places other than football games? Treat it like a normal graphic shirt and add in some classic accessories. (Don’t worry men, I didn’t forget about you guys here). Don’t forget to pair your t-shirt with darker jeans to take your look from sporty to chic.
The College Sweatpants
So incredibly cozy, but so incredibly frumpy. These are worn solely for comfort but who says comfort and style can’t be combined? When you’re picking up some sweatpants, opt for ones that have a slimmer fit so they don’t overwhelm your frame. Pick a simple and consistent color palette to work with and continue to choose pieces that are low maintenance and comfortable. A cozy sweater doesn’t stray too far from the world of sweatpants but it adds a level of sophistication to the entire look.
