What now for the LA Galaxy?

MLS doesn’t start until March but after a very successful season the LA Galaxy have to start planning for next season. There are some questions that have to be answered before the season starts, one of them is who is going to take up the mantle left behind by the departure of David Beckham. There are few players in the world that can fill the whole left by the former English captain.

The Galaxy organization have to work hard to find a person that can fill both the position on the field as well as the one off the field. A player of that importance is going to be difficult to find but there are a few of them out there that might be able to make an impact as big as Beckham. A former national team mate of Beckham may be the solution.

Frank Lampard’s contract with Chelsea is over next summer and there is no sign that the team is looking to renew his contract. Which means that the LA Galaxy do not have to pay a transfer fee, it also means that there will be competition from other team across the globe for his services.Frank Lampard has the talent and leadership skills to fill in the gap left open by David Beckham in the heart of the Galaxy midfield. While he does not possess the same world image as Beckham he does posses a greater goal threat.

In the last twelve years wearing the Chelsea shirt he has scored  133 goals, an average of 10 goals or more per season. At the age of 34 Lampard is not a player for the future but he still has a couple of good years in the tank to perform at the highest level.  Lampard also bring with him a vast experience with him allowing him to be a mentor to the younger players. With the Galaxy he is guarantee to be in a team fighting for trophies and with Lampard the Galaxy has a player that an bring something different to the team as well as someone that is used to playing big games and expects to wins an attitude that any team wants.
