Breath and Stay Focused

College can be overwhelming and stressful; the key to remaining sane is to find something to release all of those feelings. This can be done by playing a sport, exercising, or even just taking a walk. When you are overwhelmed it is hard for you to focus and do well on assignments. According to WebMD Magazine being stressed can cause many medical issues, which includes headaches, upset stomachs, elevated blood pressure, chest pain, and problems sleeping. All of this will not help with getting that assignment done. You need to take care of yourself first. However, this does not give you an excuse to wait until the last minute to study. Take it from me; I have had to live through past mistakes to tell you this. You have to balance everything, school, work, friends, family, and you.  It can be hard to do all of this in only a few short hours of the day, but it can be done.

When you have a lot of work to do in a short amount of time the key is to stay focused. I’m not going to lie, this can be very difficult, especially if the subject is uninteresting or when so many distractions are present. The trick is to remove the distractions or even remove yourself from the situation. Try using the library or being outside in the fresh air. Nature can help you relax.  It is all about being honest with yourself about where you work best. For example I get distracted very easily and need to have music playing, so I know that I have to work in the library away from electronics, because I cannot trust myself to not get distracted.

Another thing that stresses a lot of people is leaving things to the last minute. Procrastination is a killer in college. Getting things done should not be your only priority; you need to do them well. If you spend six hours on something that should have taken you two weeks, there is a problem. You will stress out and will not being doing everything you could to get an amazing grade.

I know it is tough but you just need to remember to breath and stay focused!

Best of luck :)
