The Trend—New Years Eve Style

By Gilmarie Brioso on December 30, 2012

If you are going be on Times Square to watch the Ball Drop, it doesn’t really matter what you wear. No one is going to see it. The 30-degree weather will keep those patient yet festive spectators nice and bundled up within coats, scarves, hats, and gloves.

But if you have plans that entail warmer accommodations, then you probably have been thinking about what to wear for New Years Eve.

Still haven’t decided? Well, you’re in luck. The great stylists at Who What Wear have put together two “party-ready” looks to celebrate the coming of 2013. And since you probably will be waking up the following morning in the same outfit, these looks will guarantee that your start to the new year is a fashionable one.

Look 1: The Luxe Tux

For a polished look, try this take on the tuxedo. It is “inspired by Giambattista Valli Resort 13′s cool black-tie interpretation.”

The key to this outfit is the blazer and shirt, so you’ll want a sharp jacket and a chic button-down for a nice mix in textures. Instead of slacks or jeans, try shorts. The extra leg will drive the boys wild.

Tiffany Tse suggests that you, “don’t feel … confined to head-to-toe black.” Add some color to the look through your shorts and even maybe the button up. Don’t be afraid of some sparkle either. It is New Years Eve after all.

But if you are going to be in NYC for New Years, I would suggest adding tights to the ensemble to fight off the cold, maybe even some leg warmers. This will be a great way to add some texture to the look as well.

For a finishing touch, add sleek accessories like booties. They will help you appear not overly dressed.

Look 2: Lady in Lace

Lanvin’s Fall/Winter 12 collection inspired this look. Its “ultra-feminine, lacy frock paired with bright evening gloves and a statement necklace [offers] an over-the-top look that’s ideal for any New Year’s Eve celebration.”

Tse’s first step is to find the perfect dress. A lacey strapless or halter works best. Then make sure to enhance the neckline with a dazzling necklace.

High-impact accessories add much needed texture. Over the top is fine, “since this look’s all about more-is-more (and having fun with it), a few self-indulgent pieces are a must.” A nice pair of sleek heels will leave you with the perfect finish.
