Spring at Florida State: What to Expect

The fall semester is filled with so many exciting events happening around FSU — football season, Homecoming Week, Parents’ Weekend, Seminole Sensation Week, and just the excitement of being back after summer break. So to some, the spring semester may seem like a letdown. As the semester begins, some of us are probably still reeling from the fall semester as well as wishing that winter break was longer. However, don’t let that damper your spring! Here are just few of the great events or activities happening around campus that can really make your spring semester a lively one!

1. It’s basketball season! We have a great team, and if you have never been to a game, this needs to be on your FSU bucket list! I never watched any kind of basketball game in its entirety until we played UNC last spring. After that game, I was officially addicted to Florida State Basketball. Game times and days vary throughout the season, and tickets are less competitive to obtain (unless we’re playing excellent teams such as UNC or Duke). Come to the Tuck to cheer on our 2012 ACC Champions!

2. Don’t forget about baseball season! Our baseball team went to the College World Series this past year, so you know they’re good! Unfortunately, I have never been to a baseball game at FSU, but I definitely plan to attend games this season! You can obtain tickets the same way as basketball or football tickets.
3. Even though they have movies year-round, the Student Life Cinema (SLC) is always full of activities in spring! During my freshman spring semester, I basically lived at the SLC. Not only do they play current movies, but they also have classics and indie films. There are also events throughout the semester such as Spielberg week. The SLC is absolutely something worth checking out. Go and see movies that usually do not interest you. You may be surprised!

There are so many great events happening in the spring semester. Just because Saturdays no longer revolve around football doesn’t mean that nothing exciting is happening around campus. FSU has many opportunities to get involved in activities during the spring semester (such as Dance Marathon or The Big Event). Go into this new semester with an open mind. You may be surprised at what opportunities come at you.
