App Alert! Zombies, Run!
Right now, you are probably stuffed after last night’s big Christmas dinner and need to get back on that health track. Or maybe, you have to get in shape for that New Years outfit waiting for you in your closet. Whatever that case, Zombies, Run! is an app to try.
I like Zombies, Run! because it combines two of my favorite things: zombies and storytelling. And oh yeah, there’s some running involved too.
Here’s how it works.
As you run, the app places you within a post-apocalyptic world where zombies chase after you. That’s the first part of the game, where you go on missions to collect items for your base. After the run, the second phase of the game commences. At home, you assign the items collected to various parts of the base, helping in its development. As the base grows, so does the population, allowing you to gain different missions, which grant access to parts of the story.
As Naomi Alderman, the writer for Zombies, Run!, states, it’s not just about the running, “There are bigger questions out there: How did this happen? Does someone know more than they are telling? Are you going to be able to find out the truth?”

The best part about Zombies, Run! is that you can run with your own music. Once the app is set, you can return to your music playlist. But expect occasional instructions and dialogue from the app to come in through your headphones.
And there’s more…
For you legit runners, Zombies, Run! has recently introduced a 5k training app with 8 weeks of training designed by experts.
This app is so much fun. It has already developed a worldwide community of runners. Over 150, 000 players have joined worldwide. Don’t believe me? Here is what some Zombies, Run! fans have tweeted:
Adam Skinner @Skinner1987
“Just used @ZombiesRunGame for the first time! AMAZING!!! Running away from zombiesbis hard work!”
Matthew @blacksaber1993
“Fun Run?? People, I’m on my Zombies, Run flow. I get to run away from zombies and mix in the best metal ever to my playlist. #dealwithit”
Ina Aurora @InaAurora
“@ZombiesRunGame Thank you 4 the best app ever! I did 20 km this week bcuz i got in mission mode, ran 2day in -10 degrees… ? #running”
The app’s biggest downfall: its price. Apple users have to pay $7.99, which is way above the standard for applications. However, oddly enough, the app is available on Windows devices for only $1.99.
So, is it worth it? If you have the money, give the app a try. Besides, what can beat music, zombies and fitness?
