'Girl Meets World' in New Spin-off of an Old Classic

By Megan Williams on November 28, 2012

It was the show that made a generation, an epic adventure between two best friends, and one of the best love stories ever to be shown on television. And, thanks to Disney Channel, Boy Meets World will be revived once more by its sequel Girl Meets World. In this sequel viewers will be reconnected with Ben Savage and Danielle Fishel, more commonly known as Cory and Topanga, and their 13-year-old daughter Riley (who is still being casted at this point). Although it is yet to be determined, hopefully fans will also be able to reconnect with Rider Strong, who plays the ever faithful sidekick to Cory, Shawn Hunter, and also William Daniels, aka the teacher of the decade, Mr. Feeny.

While the news was broken by Danielle herself over Tumblr, it has without a doubt spread to the ends of the Earth as Boy Meets World fans brace themselves for the show’s reveal. However, at this time no release date has been given. Let fans just hope that Disney Channel gets this show right, seeing as how their programs as of late have been going downhill, and fast.

While the new spinoff is still in talks we can only guess that it will closely match its parent show in themes and style, only updated to touch on current trends that young adults are facing in society. I suspect viewers can expect to see shows about bullying, texting, relationships with friends and family, and school problems. Although, the question remains will this new spinoff be able to find a connection with the fan base of Boy Meets World or will it falter because of the expansive age difference between Disney Channels demographic and those that watched Boy Meets World 12, almost 13, years ago when the final season aired on ABC. I guess with that only time will tell, but as of now the Boy Meets World fans are definitely eager to see what Riley, her edgy best friend Maya, and the rest of the characters of Girl Meets World has to offer. Hopefully, audiences will again be able to grow alongside this new set of characters from their early middle school days all the way through their college years.
