Get on the Mat and Find Your Center: Yoga Studios Near DU
Denver, Colorado is known for being a yoga-friendly city, and near the University, this is no different. There are many fantastic studios within five miles or less of DU that are perfect places to go whether you have been doing yoga for one day, one month, one year, or even longer. If you are new to yoga, don’t worry – most studios have beginner classes that will be an amazing start to your yoga experience. In the words of Nike, just do it!
CorePower Yoga is the studio that comes to mind for most people in Colorado. There are two CorePower locations within 5 miles of the DU campus - Colorado Boulevard and Cherry Hills. Both studios boast a variety of classes each day, seven days a week. There are four levels of difficulty: 1, 1.5, 2, and 3. Levels 1 and 1.5 are best for more inexperienced practitioners, while 2 and 3 will satisfy even the most seasoned yogi. Individuals can also choose to attend hot yoga or yoga sculpt classes, the latter of which involve weights and some cardio. The first week of yoga is free for people new to the studio, and full-time students pay $13 per class when they present a valid ID. The Colorado Boulevard location hosts a free 1.5 level class every Sunday night from 6:30-7:30. Similarly, Cherry Hills offers a free level 1 class on Sunday night from 6:00-7:00.
Kindness Yoga has three locations near DU. These are on Broadway, in Cherry Creek, and in Capitol Hill. Kindness focuses primarily on vinyasa-style yoga. (This type of yoga involves a series of poses that flow together, using breath to facilitate smooth movement. Benefits from vinyasa yoga include core strength, coordination and flexibility.) One can take beginner, intermediate, and all-levels classes Kindness Yoga. In addition, they also have restorative and hot yoga classes. New students get their first week free, and pricing for students who show a valid ID is $13.50 per class.
Karma Yoga Center is located three miles from DU. If you are looking to experience a specific type of yoga, Karma most likely offers it! They teach many different styles of yoga, including vinyasa, kundalini, anusara, jivamukti, prenatal, yin, and yoga nidra. Also offered are transformational dance classes, which include a “dynamic blend of dance arts, martial arts and healing arts.” The drop-in rate for each class is $15.
Mudra Yoga Studio is only two miles from DU, located on the ever-popular Pearl Street. This studio focuses mostly on “flow” yoga, which links postures together in a fluid manner. They feature gentle, alignment-based, all-levels, and fundamentals flow classes. Also featured are restorative and Bikram (hot) yoga classes. Individuals who wish to practice meditation can find guided meditation classes on Fridays and Sundays. The first class is free for anyone new to the studio, and students pay $12 per class when they present a valid ID.
