Sexy Poetry Night Returns December 1st!
The second annual Night of Sexy Poetry sponsored by Eckerd’s Creative Writing Club is scheduled for this Saturday, December 1st. There will be alcohol galore, awesome performances, and food. Bring a friend, and come enjoy the festivities. The event is in Fox Hall; it starts at 7:00 pm and ends at around 10:00 pm.
Last year, there were lots of great acts including singing, dancing, and, of course, loads of poetry readings. There was even a professional burlesque dancer! We’re hoping for an even better turnout this year, and you can make that happen! Anyone can read or perform, so if you’re interested, contact Abby Shepherd, Wyatt McMurry, or Duke Trott through your Eckerd email with a title/brief description of what you plan on doing. It’s pretty open-ended, but you can read something you wrote, something someone else wrote, sing a song, dance, etc. Just be creative and dead sexy.
So, what is sexy poetry exactly? Glad you asked. Sexy poetry can involve anything having to do with sex, love, or sexuality. It can be extremely explicit, such as this poem by Sharon Olds or more cryptic and playful, such as this classic by Robert Herrick.
Here are some examples to get you in the mood (if you know what I mean…):
- “Blowjob (Vulgar Slang)”- Sharon Olds
- “A Woman Waits for Me”- Walt Whitman
- “The Silken Tent”- Robert Frost
- “i like my body when it was with your”- e.e. cummings
- “Woman, I Got the Blues”- Yusef Komunyakaa
- “Phenomenal Woman”- Maya Angelou
-”If You Forget Me”- Pablo Neruda
- “I Knew a Woman”- Theodore Roethke
Dress sexily and tell your friends to prepare for the sexiest, most fun night of their sexy little lives.
