Sweater Weather is Better: Where to Shop Online This Winter

By Uloop Writer on November 19, 2012

Winter is in the air and I love it. I’m okay with packing away my tank tops and dresses, because that means I get to bust out the scarves, thick tights, and sweaters. The best part about sweaters is that it’s like constantly being in a very gentle hug. If comfort was an object, it’d be sweaters. Mmmm, sweaters.

Sweaters are great to build outfits around. A big, bright sweater with tight pants is a go-to outfit for fall and winter, and even more basic sweaters are great for dressing up with chunky jewelry. Thrift shops like the Salvation Army are a great place to pick up unique holiday sweaters, but sometimes the condition of the garments can be little funky. Especially during winter, I prefer online shopping. I can cruise between multiple shops and the items often have customer reviews. That way, even if I can’t try on the item, I can still get a feel for what it would be like before I buy it. Plus, with online shopping I don’t have to leave my little nest of soft blankets, hot tea, and sweaters.

ModCloth has a great selection of seasonal clothes and one of the cutest and most diverse clothing selections I’ve ever seen on a website. My previous experiences with buying dresses and sweaters from ModCloth have been all positive. The site is great about providing high quality clothing and . The only downside is that the clothes are a bit on the pricey side with sweaters averaging $40 to $70. It’s okay, with online shopping you can admire the attire you desire, and save the item to your wishlist until you can pay for it (or someone that loves you can. Hint: Holidays are coming up and sharing your wishlist can nudge your gift-givers in the right direction. Right into a sweater.)

Etsy is another wonderful website worth checking out if you’re looking for a completely unique look. Since etsy is all about supporting independent retailers, most of the items available for purchase are one of a kind. However, uniqueness on etsy can be a double-edged sword and it can take some digging to find something unique that also matches your personality. The craftsmen that make up the etsy community sometimes even take into account your personal measurements when making your clothes, so using etsy is a cool opportunity to buy custom-made, affordable clothing.

If you’re looking for more basic clothing or perhaps a wider selection than what you might find in a boutique, check out Overstock.com. You can search Overstock.com by color, size, and brand. This search tool allows for you to find the exact object you are looking for and I think it is only a matter of time before more clothing stores utilize this search tool.
