Best Shakes in Provo!

By Courtney Judd on November 8, 2012

“I’m so depressed!  I went to the dentist this morning and found out I have a cavity.  I need a milkshake to make me feel better!!!”

That was the desperate plea from my good friend the other day.  While I mocked her for wanting a milkshake to cheer her up when a milkshake was probably the cause of said cavity, of course I complied and went on a milkshake run with her.  As a junior in college who has endured much stress over the years, I have become quite familiar with the milkshake joints in town.  This is because, as my friend exclaimed so passionately, milkshakes make a person feel better.  They are the perfect pick me up and celebratory junk food meaning they can appropriately be consumed in both times of despair and times of joy.  As a self-proclaimed expert I asked myself, “Where are the best shakes in Provo?”  This was what I came up with.

Oreo Cream Pie Shake from Sammy’s

1. Sammy’s Café

Famous for it’s pie shakes Sammy’s never disappoints it’s customers.  They put a slice of pie inside the blender along with the ice cream to create an ever so satisfying combination of pure deliciousness.  My favorite pie shake is the Apple Cobbler pie shake.  They also make scrumptious cupcake shakes using the cupcakes from the Sweet Tooth Fairy bakery.  My favorite cupcake shake is raspberry lemonade, which is something everyone should experience before kicking the can.  Also, fun fact…Sammy’s has a two for one Tuesday deal, which means on Tuesdays you can purchase two shakes for the price of one shake.

2. In ‘n’ Out

Shh….this is technically in Orem, but right outside Provo so we’ll count it.  In ‘n’ Out only has the three basic flavors of vanilla, chocolate, and strawberry but boy do they do the basics oh so well.  You can mix the flavors as well, which is also super tasty.  Try the neapolitan!  It’s great!!

3. Maverick Gas Station

A gas station…surprising, right?  They have a little freezer in the back with a variety of completely frozen ice cream flavors.  You pop one into the machine and pick the level of thickness you want for your shake and voila!  Like magic, the ice cream unfreezes and is ready to go at the thickness you desire.

4. The Hospital Cafeteria

And you thought the gas station was surprising… Anyway, the hospital cafeteria is open late, super cheap, and has really yummy food!  Last time I went I got the cookies and cream shake which was extraordinary.

There you go folks.  If you are seeking an ice cream fix this weekend here lies your answer.  Try these out and let me know your thoughts!  Also, as an ice cream connoisseur I am open to your suggestions of shake places I should try out.
