Dracula, a BalletMet Performance at Capitol Theater
If you have never been to a ballet, you must go at least once in your life. I have been a couple times, but most recently, I had the pleasure of seeing Dracula performed by the BalletMet at Capitol Theater in Columbus. First of all, a round of applause for the performance. Dracula was fast-moving and well-timed with the season. I must say that, all in all, the performance was beautiful and fluid. The dancers were flawless and the score impressive. The little props that they had worked well with the movement of the ballet. All of the dancers performed with unbidden passion that could be felt by all in the audience. I have one word: bravo!
While I do want to commend the performers and recommend this performance to anyone who ever has the chance to go, the main point of this article is to address those who do not appreciate this art form. Ballet is a unique experience. I implore everyone to attend at least once. In a ballet, you must pay attention to the details of movement and the precision of body language, as well as rely on the music to tell the story. There are no words, and little props. Ballet brings the story back to the most basic telling, allowing you to understand it through the dancers’ actions. It is a moving experience.
Today, a lot of younger people don’t consider it as a preferred pastime. However, it is a refined art and needs to be appreciated. Every person should have the experience once, so that they can at least appreciate the skill and talent that goes in to ballet. It is part of our culture–a part that I hope never goes out of fashion. Therefore, I am encouraging all of my fellow college students to go to at least one ballet if they haven’t already. You may be surprised and enjoy it, as long as you pay attention. Ballet is not simple; it requires true focus and thought, which is something we need more of.
