Theta Chi and their Efforts to Support a Greater Cause: Cheers For Children 2012
A prominent aspect of the greek community here at good ol’ Florida State University, is philanthropic activity. Every sorority and fraternity participates in and supports philanthropies within their chapters and also at a national level. This weekend, the brothers of Theta Chi Fraternity will be hosting one of the most popular philanthropies on campus, Cheers for Children, in support of the Kidz1stFund.
The Kidz1stFund is close to the hearts of Florida State Students, as it was started by our very own Jimbo Fisher and his wife Candi, whose son suffers from a rare and serious blood disease, Fanconi Anemia. The mission of the Kidz1stFund is to raise awareness and research funds to find a cure for this disease.
For this philanthropy event, about 20 women from each sorority choreograph a cheerleading routine and perform it at the event, held in Tallahassee’s Leon County Civic Center. Just like any other competitive cheerleading competition, this competition between sororities has a set of rules and a panel of experienced judges. Word is that things get real competitive, and that these sorority women put on an impressive show, but in the end it’s for the kids. After the the judges have made their decisions, the first, second, and third place winners along with the winner of the spirit award, all receive a donation to their specific philanthropy. The brothers of Theta Chi are not only working hard to raise money for their philanthropy, but they also give back to the sorority women who work hard to help make the event a success.
Whether you are a fan of competitive cheerleading, a supporter of the Kidz1stFund, a student with no plans on a Sunday, or just a curious soul, come out to support Theta Chi’s Cheers For Children!
The event takes place this Sunday, November 4th at the Leon County Civic Center. Tickets are $15 at the door and seats are limited, so get there when the doors open at 6:00pm!
