Fun Fall Activities (at MoHo)
Fall is a tricky time of year. With the days getting darker and darker and the landscape dying and becoming bleak it is nice to know that there are some things you can do during the fall which can also help prepare for the winter.
1. Enjoy the last of the leaves
Right now we are well past peak season, but there are still some leaves on the trees which look more beautiful in the absence of color elsewhere. Take a walk around upper or lower lake. It is a great chance to get some exercise and breathe the cool, crisp fall air.
2. Rocky Horror showing at the Towers
The first Saturday of every month means a midnight live performance of The Rocky Horror Picture Show. It is a fun experience for live performance virgins and those who have seen it before. (Note: this is a more “mature” movie just as a warning)
3. Curl up with a steaming cup of hot cider and friends at Thirsty Mind
Thirsty Mind has their seasonal drinks up and is a perfect place to meet with friends and talk or to just sit and do reading or homework. If it’s not too cold, there is outside seating so you can get some fresh air. Located right across the street from the college, it is the perfect location.
4. Apple Picking
Atkins Farms presents the perfect place to go pick apples with friends or family. Located right on the bus route it is easy to get to and you can get some delicious apples. Community Advisers have been known to take their floor or hall apple picking.
5. Getting Busy in the Kitchen
One of my favorite fall activities is cooking. Fall is a great time for making applesauce and requires little effort. All you have to do is peel and core the apples, cut them into chunks and put them in a pan submerged in water. Let them come to a boil or until they are soft enough to mash them. Once they are soft, use a fork or some other instrument to mash the apples like they are potatoes and you have delicious homemade applesauce.
