Best Halloween Costumes for 2012
It’s one week until Halloween, which means it’s time to start thinking about those last-minute Halloween costumes. Here are some of the most relevant costumes for 2012.
The Hunger Games
College students across the country got bit by The Hunger Games bug this past spring. This Halloween, bring out the survivor in you by dressing up as your favorite Hunger Games character. Girls can channel their inner Katniss with a simple black shirt, a sideways French braid, and a bow and arrows. Guys can easily become Peeta Mellark with an apron and a loaf of burnt bread. Couples looking for a pairs costume can dress as either Katniss and Peeta or Katniss and Gale, depending on which fictional heartthrob they wanted Katniss to choose. If you’re going as Katniss and Peeta, don’t forget to bring some nightlock berries (blueberries!)
Your Favorite Olympian
If you have a new favorite athlete after cheering on the USA in the 2012 Olympics this summer, why not go as an Olympian for Halloween? Grab a group of girls and some red leotards to be The Fierce Five, the first place U.S. women’s gymnastics team. You and one friend could go as dynamic beach volleyball due Misty May-Treanor and Kerri Walsh Jennings. Guys can pull out their Speedos and go dressed (sort of) as Michael Phelps or Ryan Lochte. Whatever sport you followed this summer, bust out your best red, white, and blue
The Royal Family
Between Wimbledon, the Olympics, and the Queen Elizabeth II’s Diamond Jubilee (she’s been Queen for 60 years!), the entire world seemed to have a bit of British Fever this summer. You and your friends can carry on the British-mania by dressing as members of the Royal Family. There’s Queen Elizabeth II, the current reigning monarch, Princes William and Harry, and their cousins Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie. Couples can go for the obvious duo Will and Kate, but those wanting to be a little more scandalous should go as Prince Charles and his second wife, Camilla.
90′s Nickelodeon Characters
Bring out your inner kid by dressing up like your favorite 90′s Nick character. There’s Doug Funny and his friend Skeeter from Doug, or his long-time crush Patty Mayonnaise. Groups of four can go as the adventurous babies from Rugrats, and even add characters like Angelica Pickles to the group. There are plenty of individual and group costumes to choose from with shows like CatDog, Kenan & Kel, Rocket Power, Hey Arnold!, and the Angry Beavers as inspiration. Trick-or-Treating is optional.
PSY
Korean rapper, PSY, has taken the Western world by storm lately with his hit single Gangnam Style. The song’s music video has gotten over 500 million views on YouTube since it was added only three months ago. The accompanying dance, which resembles riding a horse while swinging a lasso, has become as well known on college campuses as the ‘Wop’ or the ‘Wobble’. All you need to become the K-Pop sensation is a suit, a black bowtie, dark-tinted shades, and some killer dance moves.
Presidential Candidates
It’s an election year, which means that no costume list would be complete without a reference to the presidential candidates. You and a friend can either team up to dress as either Obama and Biden or Romney and Ryan. If you can’t agree on which party you want to represent, you can try a little (friendly!) competition by going as Obama and Romney. You can buy a mask of either candidate, but all you really need is a suit and tie, an American flag pin, and a convincing smile.
