Taking Recruitment to a Whole New Level
This year has been an interesting one in regards to Panhellenic recruitment. People across the nation have brought to light the struggles they have going through recruitment, so individuals have started to hire coaches for the event. These consultants go over all possibilities that may occur during recruitment. They have meetings that go over mock rush parties, wardrobe ideas, and paperwork prep. These do not come cheap either. Some can cost up to $8,000 for an ace consultant.
One might even ask if it’s worth the money. I didn’t realize how important being a part of a sorority is for some women. Yes, there are the great networking opportunities, the social interactions between people of similar interests, but most importantly, a group of women you spend your life with. You are also more inclined to become active on your school campus and help out with community service projects. Being a part of Greek Life does come with great benefits but paying your way to get there sounds drastic. This new approach is all about outsmarting a system, which has been around for years, just to win a spot in the sorority.
Joining a sorority has great benefits but I cannot imagine preparing myself in such drastic ways. I am a part of the Panhellenic community and would never consider hiring a rush consultant. They prepare you for the event itself, which is helpful, but they also try and alter your characteristics. I believe everyone finds the appropriate house for them by acting like themselves. Pretending to be someone else may cause you to think that you do not belong once you show your true colors. These coaches tell you what to wear, what to say, and how to build your resume. They claim to be helping their students with obstacles of life. They aren’t because these coaches are teaching you to be like this stereotypical sorority girl, but in reality, every girl I now in Greek life has a mind for her own.
